Workshops

Not every AI idea deserves a business case. Which ones do?

Find the strongest opportunity. Build the case leadership can actually decide on.

Bring 2–3 candidate AI opportunities. Use the NRM AI Opportunity Scorecard to pressure-test which one is worth advancing, then turn the strongest option into a decision-ready business case grounded in value, cost, risk, assumptions, and measurable outcomes.

The goal is not to make every AI idea look investable. It is to build the evidence leadership needs to make a sound decision.

Only 25% of AI initiatives have delivered their expected ROI.

IBM Institute for Business Value Β· 2025 CEO Study

A promising AI idea is not yet a business case.

The challenge is not simply making the idea sound more compelling. It is determining whether the opportunity is strong enough to deserve investment in the first place.

Leadership needs more than enthusiasm, technical feasibility, or a vendor promise. They need a clear business problem, credible value, realistic costs, understood risks, explicit assumptions, and measures that make the decision defensible.

THE SHIFT
FROM

β€œThis seems like a good AI use case.”

TO

β€œWe understand why this opportunity is worth pursuing, what value it could create, and what has to be true for the investment to make sense.”

Choose before you build.

Bring 2–3 candidate opportunities. Use the NRM AI Opportunity Scorecard to pressure-test them, compare the tradeoffs, and identify which one deserves the deeper business case.

What makes an opportunity worth advancing?

BUSINESS VALUE

Does this move something that matters?

Test the expected business impact and whether the value is meaningful enough to justify attention and investment.

What outcome should be different if this works?

THE OUTPUT

A ranked shortlist you can explain and defend.

The highest-scoring idea is not automatically the answer. The scorecard makes the tradeoffs visible.

Then build the case around the decision.

Once the strongest opportunity is selected, the team turns it into a case leadership can evaluate.

01

Business problem

What are we actually trying to improve?

02

Expected value

What measurable outcome could this create?

03

Cost

What will it take to implement and sustain?

04

Risk

What could undermine the value?

05

Assumptions

What has to be true for the case to hold?

06

Measures

How will we know whether it worked?

The goal is not a perfect forecast. It is a decision you can defend.
